Dan Levy

I will never have the willpower to completely swear off pizza or a good summer sale, but I’m working on realizing the difference between the occasional craving and the compulsion to mindlessly consume as a feeble means of self-medication.

With rap, you go in the studio, you make music, you put the music out, then all of a sudden, you’re a star: you have a big record on the radio, and you’re on stage, and you’ve never done it before. Let’s say your first show is ‘Summer Jam,’ and you’re in front of 60,000 people, and you’ve never played an arena, ever. You’re gonna suck.

I didn’t know the term ‘synesthesia’ until I was working on ‘Cruel Summer.’ Halfway into writing that, I really understood that, my entire life, I had been trying to describe this condition of mine: through painting, through this seven-screen Surround Vision film we shot in Qatar, through all these things.

What is summer and when does it occur?

Summer is the hottest of all four temperate seasons, coming after spring and falling before autumn.

The earliest sunrise and latest sunset occurs at or around the summer solstice (about 3 days before midsummer day), the days are longest and the nights are shorter, with day length decreasing as the season progresses after solstice.

The summer start date varies depending on location, tradition and culture. For the Northern Hemisphere it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere when it is warm, and vice versa.
