It has none of the other emissions elements that are of concern to public health that other forms of power-generation fuels do have: coal, fuel oil, others.

Since 1975, violence has been recognized as a public health problem, in large part to former Surgeon Generals Dr. Koop and Dr. Satcher’s pioneering efforts to make the health approach a national priority. Legally speaking, the term ‘public rights’ is as vague and indefinite as are the terms ‘public health,’ ‘public good,’ ‘public welfare,’ and the like. It has no legal meaning, except when used to describe the separate, private, individual rights of a greater or less number of individuals.

Lysander Spooner

The idea that there is one kind of African is, of course, ridiculous. Sometimes African entrepreneurs want to kill you because you are saying public health is the priority, not roads. Of course they are right to press for that issue, but so are we right, I believe, to argue, for example, that millions of children could and should be vaccinated.

Bono

Patch Adams

Antibiotics are a very serious public health problem for us, and it’s getting worse. Resistant microbes outstrip new antibiotics. It’s an ongoing problem. It’s not like we can fix it, and it’s over. Today we know the best way to prevent the spread of Ebola infection is through public health measures.

Michael Porter

If you ask the American people to choose, between public health and the economy, then it’s no contest. No American is going to say, accelerate the economy, at the cost of human life. Because no American is going to say how much a life is worth. Job one has to be save lives. That has to be the priority.

Andrew Cuomo

Parks represent an efficient, cost-effective way to improve public health.

What is public health and why is it necessary?

Public health has been described as the “science and art of disease prevention,” prolonging life and enhancing quality of life through coordinated initiatives and informed decisions of community, organisations, public and private, societies and individuals.

The basis for public health is to examine the determinants of a population’s health and the challenges it faces.

The population can be as small as a handful of individuals, or as large as a village or a whole town; in the case of a pandemic, it may reach many continents.

The definition of health takes physical, psychological , and social wellness into consideration. According to the World Health Organisation, this is not just the absence of illness or disease and, more recently, a tool for daily life.

Public health is an area of interdisciplinary concern. Epidemiology, biostatistics, social sciences, and health care administration, for example, all are important.

Many important sub-fields include environmental health, community health, behavioral health , health economics, public policy, mental wellbeing, health care, occupational protection, disability, sexual and reproductive health issues.
