Who is Paul Robeson ?
The bass baritone bass artist and stage and film actor Paul Leroy Robeson (April 9, 1898-January 23, 1976) became famous for his cultural achievements as well as his politic activism.
He was also a star athlete in his youth, being educated at Rutgers College and Columbia University.
His politically active activities began with a participation of unemployed workers and anti-imperialist students, whom he met in Britain and continued his support for the loyalist cause during the Spanish Civil War and his opposition to Fascism.
He studied Linguism and Swahili in the School of Oriental and African Studies in London in 1934. He also participated in the civil rights and other social justice campaigns in the United States.
He was blacklisted during the McCarthy era with his sympathies for and for communism in the Soviet Union and his criticism of the US government and external policy.
He was named a Twice-American Consensus in Football and a valedictorian class by Robeson in 1915 and a university scholar at Rutgers College. He was brought to the College Football Hall of Fame almost 80 years later.
He got his LL.B. The National Football League (NFL) at the Columbia Law School. He sang and performed in off-screen productions in Columbia. After graduating, he became an artist with performances in The Emperor Jones and All God’s Got Wings in the Harlem Renaissance.
