The American author Augustine "Og" Mandino II was. He wrote The World's Greatest Salesman's bestselling book. About 50 million copies of his books have been sold and translated into more than 25 languages. Until 1976 he was the president of the magazine Performance Unlimited and was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the National Speakers Association. According to the United States 1930 Census, Mandino was born on 12 December 1923 to parents Silvio and Margaret Mandino in Natick, Massachusetts. He was named after his paternal Italian ancestor, Augustine. Once Mandino was the editor of his high school paper, and he planned to attend the journalism school at the University of Missouri. His mother died in 1940, before entering college, from a massive heart attack. Up until 1942 he decided to work in a paper mill. He entered the U.S. Army Air Force afterwards where he became a military officer and a bombardier. During World War II, he flew with fellow pilot and film star James Stewart for 30 bombing missions across Germany on board a B-24 Liberator.
