The American singer, songwriter, guitarist, arranger and civil rights activist Eunice Kathleen Waymon (21 February 1933 – 21 April 2003) was professionally known as Nina Simone. She music encompassed a variety of classical , jazz, blues, folk, R & B, gospel and pop styles. Initially, Simone aspired to be a concert pianist, the sixth of a total of eight children born to a poor family in Tryon, North Carolina.
