Who is Mark Russell ?
Mark Russell (born 23 August 1932) is an American actor and political satirist. He is best known for his series of semi-monthly PBS television comedy specials from 1975 to 2004.
His performances were a mixture of political stand-up comedy covering current affairs and musical parodies that accompanied him on his American flag-themed piano signature.
Beginning in the early 1960s he was a frequent entertainer at the Washington, D.C., Shoreham Hotel.
And, in 1975, did his first PBS broadcast. He was a reporter on NBC’s reality TV show, Real People, from 1979 to 1984.
Russell’s parodies of the song use melodies from old standards with new humorous lyrics related to the subject. For example, in 1990, after the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceauescu was executed, Russell performed a parody song on his show in the tune of “Chattanooga Choo-Choo.”
(“Pardon me, boys / Are you the cats that shot Ceauşescu? / You made my day / How you blew him away”) Russell himself acknowledges that most of his jokes and songs are very topical and have “a shelf life shorter than cottage cheese.”
Skewering Democrats and Republicans as well as third-party, progressive politicians and other influential political (and often non-political) personalities are known for Russell’s humor.
Russell has often been asked the question, “Do you have any authors?” His typical response is, “Oh, yeah, I have 535 writers, 100 in the Senate and 435 in the House of Representatives!” When questioned if his opinions on current affairs are too caustic, Russell responds, “I follow the old newsman’s adage, saying, ‘I’m not making news. I’m just covering it.’ And in my case, I’m not even making the jokes. Mark Russell Motivational Quotes are become popular nowadays.
