John Prine (10 October 1946-7 April 2020) was a folk singer-songwriter from the American country. Since the early 1970s until his death he was active as a composer, recording artist, and live performer, and was known for an often satirical style of original music with elements of protest and social commentary. Born and raised in Maywood, Illinois, at the age of 14 Prine learned how to play the guitar. He attended classes at Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. Since having worked with the US in West Germany Army, he returned to Chicago in the late 1960s where he worked as a mailman, first as a hobby writing and singing songs and then as a club singer.
