Who is Jim Rohn ?
Professionally known as Jim Rohn, Emanuel James Rohn (September 17, 1930-December 5, 2009) was an American entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker.
To Emmanuel and Clara Rohn was born Emanuel James “Jim” Rohn in Yakima, Washington. The Rohns owned and operated a farm in Caldwell, Idaho where Jim was the only child to have grown up. After just one year Rohn left college and started his professional life as a human resource manager for Sears department store.
A friend invited him around this time to a lecture given by renowned entrepreneur John Earl Shoaff. In 1955, Rohn entered as a dealer the direct sale company AbundaVita by Shoaff. Rohn resigned his distributorship with AbundaVita in 1957, and joined another direct sales firm, Nutri-Bio.
It was at this point that the founders of the company started to mentor him like Shoaff. Following this mentoring, Rohn created one of the company’s largest organisations. When Nutri-Bio expanded into Canada in 1960, Shoaff and the other founders named Rohn as the organization’s vice president.
Rohn was asked to speak at a meeting of his Rotary Club after Nutri-Bio went out of business in the early 1960’s.
He agreed and, soon, others started to invite him to talk at different lunches and other activities. He gave his first public seminar at the Beverly Hills Hotel, in 1963.
He then began to offer seminars throughout the world, to tell his story and to teach his theory of personal growth. Rohn also held a number of workshops for Standard Oil in the 1970s.
He also invested in a personal development company named “Adventures in Achievement,” which included both live lectures and workshops on personal growth.
For more than 40 years, he delivered seminars worldwide. Throughout the late 1970s, Rohn had mentored Mark R. Hughes (founder of Herbalife International) and life strategist Tony Robbins.
Those who praise Rohn with his influence on their careers include the writers Mark Victor Hansen (Everton Edwards), founder of Hallmark innovators Conglomerate limited company, and Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup book series), author / reader Brian Tracy, Todd Smith, and T. Eker, Harv. Rohn and Chris Widener have co-authored the novel Twelve Pillars.
Rohn was the recipient of the 1985 CPAE Award for Excellence in Speaking by the National Speakers Association. He is also the author of 17 different published, audio , and video formats, including “The Power of Determination,” “Take Your Life Charges,” and “The Day That Turns Your Life Around.” Many of his speeches are now available on social media sites such as YouTube and Instagram, for free.
