What is Imagination?
Imagination is the ability in the mind to produce and simulate novel objects, peoples, and ideas without any immediate senses input.
This is also defined as the development of experiences in one’s mind, which can be re-creations of past experiences such as vivid memories with imagined changes, or they can be completely created and probably spectacular scenes.
Imagination helps to make knowledge relevant to problem solving and is central to the integration of experience and the learning process.
A basic imagination training is the listening to storytelling (narrative), in which the precision of the words chosen is the fundamental element in “evoking worlds.”
Imagination is a cognitive mechanism that is used in mental development and sometimes used in combination with clinical imaging. As such it’s called that it requires thinking about possibilities.
To psychology the cognate concept of mental imagery may be used to describe the process of reviving objects previously provided to sense perception in the mind recollections.
Since this use of the term conflicts with that of ordinary language, some psychologists preferred to describe this process as “imaging” or “imagery” or to speak of it as “reproductive,” as opposed to “productive” or “constructive” imagination.
Constructive imagination is further divided into active imagination powered by the prefrontal cortex ( PFC) and spontaneous PFC-independent imagination including REM-sleep dreaming, daydreaming, hallucinations and spontaneous insight.
The active forms of creativity include modificator incorporation, and mental rotation. Imaginated images, both novel and reminiscent, are seen with the eye of the mind.
Nevertheless, imagination is not considered to be solely a cognitive activity since it is also linked to the body and place, particularly because it also involves forming relationships with materials and people, beyond the sense that imagination is locked into the brain.
Stories such as fairy tales or fantasies may also convey imagination. Kids also take advantage of these myths and pretend to play to exercise their imagination.
As children create fantasy they play on two levels: first, they use role-playing to act out what they have created through their imagination, and second, by behaving as though what they have created were an actual fact, they play again with their make-believe scenario.
