Henry Kissinger was born as Heinz Alfred Kissinger on May 27, 1923) is an American politician, diplomat, and diplomatic strategist who worked under the presidential administrations of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford as United States Secretary of State and National Security Advisor. A Jewish refugee who had escaped with his family from Nazi Germany in 1938, he became National Security Adviser in 1969 and U.S. State Minister, in 1973. Kissinger won the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize in controversial circumstances for his role negotiating a truce in Vietnam, with two members of the committee resigning in protest.
