Helen Adams Keller was an American author, activist and teacher. She was the first deaf-blind to receive a bachelor's degree in arts. Keller's story and her teacher, Anne Sullivan, became popular through Keller's memoir, The Story of My Life, and its film and stage adaptations, The Miracle Worker. Her birthplace is now a museum in West Tuscumbia, Alabama and funds an annual "Helen Keller Day" Her 27th birthday in June is commemorated as Helen Keller Day in Pennsylvania, and was honoured by a presidential decree by US President Jimmy Carter in the centenary year of her birth.
