Who is Harry S Truman ?

Harry S. Truman (8 May 1884–26 December 1972) was an American politician who, after the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, served as the 33rd presidente of the United States from 1945 to 1953. The Marshall Plan to restore Western Europe’s economy was implemented, the Truman Doctrine was set up as well as NATO.

Truman had grown up in Missouri, Freedom and was sent as a Field Artillery Captain to France during World War I. Back home, in Kansas City, Missouri, he opened a nightclub and in 1922, he was later elected to the Jackson County as representative.

Truman was elected in 1934 as the Chairman of the Truman Committee for cost reduction and inefficiency in wartime contracts to the United States Senate, based in Missouri. He approved the first and only wartime use of nuclear weapons shortly after the presidency’s success.

In an internationalist foreign policy the Truman Administration renounced isolationism. At the 1948 presidential election he formed his New Deal alliance to win his own presidential term with a surprise victory.

The 1948 Berlin Airlift was directed by Truman. In 1950, as North Korea invades South Korea, it receives permission from the United Nations to participate in the so-called Korean War.

On domestic concerns, Truman’s laws were met with a conservatory congressional opposition, but his administration has effectively directed the US economy in the aftermath of the war.

In 1948, the first comprehensive civil law was introduced and Executive Orders were given to promote racial integration of military and federal agencies. In the 1952 presidential election, corruption in Truman’s administration was central to the campaign.

After the election victory of Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower over Democrat Adlai Stevenson II, Truman retired financially and with difficulty, as marked by his presidential library being founded and his memoirs published.

The President Trumans were criticized when he left office, but scholars rehabilitated his reputation in the 1960s.
