What is Experience ?

Experience is the very first-person effects or influence of an event or subject gained by participation in or exposure to it.

The term does not mean that beneficial or long-term learning or skill development automatically happens as a result of knowledge, but both are frequently correlated and experience is sometimes used as a substitute for skills.

Knowledge is correlated with a large amount of information and skill learning, and knowledge is a critical, but not always adequate, component of physical skill learning.

Terms such as “empirical knowledge” or “a posteriori knowledge” in philosophy are used to refer to experiential knowledge. A individual with substantial experience in a particular field may gain an expert reputation.

In general, the idea of experience applies to know-how or procedural knowledge, rather than to propositional knowledge: on-the-job training rather than book learning.

Experience inquiry has a long-term tradition in continental philosophy. Knowledge plays a major part in Søren Kierkegaard’s theory.

The German word experience, also translated as “experience” into English, has a slightly different meaning, which connotes the coherence of the experiences of life.

Many religious practices (such as Buddhism, Surat Shabd Yoga, Mysticism and Pentecostalism) and educational paradigms, such as the training of military recruitment (also known as “boot camps”), stress the experiential essence of human epistemology.

It compares with the alternatives: dogmatic beliefs, philosophy, or reasoning. The value of experience also appears to be emphasized by participants in activities such as tourism, extreme sports and recreational drug use.
