Beliefs have the power to create and the power to destroy. Human beings have the awesome ability to take any experience of their lives and create a meaning that disempowers them or one that can literally save their lives.

Tony Robbins

What is Belief with description?

Belief is the way things are or are real. Philosophers in epistemology use the word “belief” as an expression of beliefs about the universe that are true or false.

To believe is to consider it true, for example, to believe that snow is white is equal to the validity of the statement that the snow is white. However, it does not take active introspection to have a belief.

For instance, few consider carefully whether tomorrow’s sun rises or not, just if it is. Moreover, there should not be beliefs (e.g. a person who actively thinks ‘snow is white’); instead, they can be dispositional (e.g. the individual who would say ‘snow is white’ when asked about the color of the snow).

The current philosophers have tried various ways of describing beliefs, including as representations of ways the world can be (Jerry Fodor), of acting like certain things are correct (Roderick Chisholm), of interpreting actions of somebody (Daniel Dennett and Donald Davidson), or of performing a specific function (Hilary Putnett) in mind.

Some have also tried to offer important revisions to our belief, including the eliminativists who argue that in the natural world there is no phänomenon that is in line with our folk-psychological concept of faith (Paul Churchland) and formal epistemologists who aim to replace our bivalent concept of beliefs with more.

Beliefs are the subject of several important discussions in philosophy. Exemplary examples include the following: “What is the correct way of revising your beliefs when given different kinds of evidence?”.

“Is the nature of our beliefs decided solely by our imagination or does the relevant reality affect our convictions (e.g. if I believe I have a glass of water, is the fact that water is a hydrogen dioxide a part of the substance of that belief)?”
