Alan Wilson Watts was a British writer and lecturer who to Western audience interpreted and popularized Eastern philosophy and religion. Raised in Chislehurst, England, he moved to the U.S. in 1938 and began Zen training in New York. He attended Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, seeking a career, where he earned a Master’s degree in Theology.
